AI Disclosures
SnapTree's AI features are optional, off by default, and run on your own account with a provider you choose. This page states precisely what is transmitted when you turn them on — taken from the code, field by field.
AI is off until you enable it and add your own API key. When you process an item, SnapTree sends the text recognised from that screenshot plus a little context — never the screenshot image itself. Output can be wrong; check it before you rely on it.
AI-assisted features
Some SnapTree features may use artificial intelligence services selected and enabled by you. Today that means one thing: cataloguing a screenshot — proposing a title, a one-sentence summary, a category, and up to five tags.
AI-generated classifications, summaries, tags, descriptions, search results, or other outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, outdated, or otherwise incorrect. You should review important AI-generated output before relying on it. Oosan Studios, LLC does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability of AI-generated output.
Every field SnapTree fills in this way is marked with its origin in the app, so you can always tell an AI-generated value from one you wrote. Values you have edited yourself are never overwritten by AI.
Third-party AI providers
SnapTree currently supports one provider: Anthropic, via its Messages API. Requests are sent directly from your Mac to Anthropic using your own API key. They do not pass through any server we operate, and we never see them.
When you process an item, exactly the following is transmitted — this list is the complete contents of the request, verified against the source:

What is not sent
The screenshot image itself is never transmitted. The request body contains text only — there is no image attachment, and no code path that adds one.
Also not sent:
- Screen recordings, or any audio
- Thumbnails or any other image data
- File paths, or the contents of your folders
- Other screenshots — each request covers one item, with no neighbouring or historical context
- Your notes, search queries, or usage history
Your control over it
- Off by default. SnapTree is fully functional without ever enabling AI.
- Your own key. Nothing works until you supply API credentials for your own provider account. Usage is billed to you by that provider.
- Automatic processing is off by default and is a separate switch from enabling AI at all.
- Confirmation before sending is on by default, showing how many items are about to be processed and to which provider.
- A monthly cap limits how many items can be processed, set to 300 by default and adjustable.
Sensitive information
Screenshots frequently contain material you would not paste into a third-party service on purpose — banking, medical results, client work, messages, and credentials. When AI is enabled, the text of such a screenshot is what gets sent.
Before using connected AI features with confidential, privileged, proprietary, regulated, or sensitive content, confirm that your selected provider and your account configuration with them are appropriate for that information — including their data-retention and training policies, and any contractual or regulatory obligations you are under. Your use of that provider is governed by their terms and privacy policy, not ours.
If in doubt, leave AI off. Everything else in SnapTree works without it.
OCR and recognition accuracy
Optical character recognition, automated labelling, search indexing, and similar machine-assisted features may contain errors. Names, numbers, dates, technical terminology, symbols, URLs, and formatting may be recognised incorrectly, and low-contrast, stylised, or handwritten text may not be recognised at all.
Because search runs against recognised text, a recognition error can also make an item hard to find. Verify important information against the original screenshot before relying on extracted or AI-processed text — the original image is always kept, unaltered, in your own folder.
Changes
